Love this piece! But throwing it out there, it is my understanding that only one dunny was used to make a mold to cast the 25, just like the mini tea. Is this an okay thing to do?
Personally I think you should have an original piece per custom rather than a recast if you are going to do a run of customs. -
12 years ago
from chatting with Dan I believe there is a full Dunny in each one.
otherwise it would be a bootleg -
Thanks for bringing it up CoMus :)
As MisterQuiche said, I basically make the first piece and mould it. Then I take an actual Dunny and fit it into the mould and cast around it for every single piece.
Definitely customs, not bootlegs :)
Only the original tour version of the Mini tea Cuppa Carbonite was 100% resin (with permission from Matt JOnes), the other versions were customs made in the same way as this Dunny piece. -

Oh sweet! Then it really is in carbonite!
Not a fan of dunny and avoid buying them but things like this make me really want to change that stance. I hope you will continue through with Carbonite series :) -
12 years ago
Thanks Quiche :)
Thanks CoMus, I know Dunnys aren't everyone's cup of tea, each to their own.
I'll be doing more carbonites, next one is already planned :) -

Rocking, looking forward to it!

Awesome, let me know what its like, I'm very intrigued!

I wonder if Suckadelic got tired of being so popular and thought the only solution was to sell the worst bunches of crap imaginable. If that doesn't work, they can always sell actual crap. But that would go far beyond the ironic, quasi-legal, and nostalgic boundaries into the realm of blatant condescension. And no one is going to stand for that, right?

Jan - I don't think it's a joke, or at least not a joke at the *expanse* of his collectors. I've had the opportunity to talk to him and visit his studio when I was in NY and I can tell you -
Sucklord is very aware of his persona and his charm and its all part of his artistic act. He's actually an artists with a lot of integrity who cares about the stuff he produces.
I bought a Dumny from him (which I have unfortunately lost in a bad NY night :( ) and when I gave him the money he said "asshole!" and added - "that's what you came for, you get the whole experience" :D -

^^ sick story lordsketch. Sucklord sounds like a really cool dude.

Sucklord is so hot right now he could take a crap, wrap it in tinfoil, put a couple fish hooks on it and sell it to Queen Elizabeth as earrings

Good to know he's a real person with real feelings and real wit about his image. Thanks for sharing, lordsketch. -

I gotta say...I don't understand this figure. I picked it up because I like Jon Burgerman's style on toys. But the sharp curve to the head and the bloated Dunny body just aren't working for me at all. What do other folks think of Bitbots?
-
That's the problem, they are using the platform like a dunny!
There is nothing wrong with the form they just need to develop their own style. It needs to be more appropriate to the form rather than just wrapping a dunny illustrator file around a bitbot.
Some of them work well but I would like to see a new style of platform toy rather than another dunny. -
12 years ago
I really don't like the platform at all.

This platform sucks so much, I don't even bother to comment! (err!)
Burgerman's doodles are pretty nice though. Reminds me of the late Jean-Michel Basquiat's messy aesthetics. -
12 years ago
I quite like Jon's stuff but i think both this platform and the design Jon has done for it blow. I think it's boring
-
The Bitbot platform sucks, as does this toy. I struggled to pass on this being a massive Burgerman fan for the past 4-5 years, but with a bit of life coaching from my girlfriend (lol) I managed to save myself £40! I dont know what Jon was thinking, maybe he was just keen to support a UK production platform in its early days, but it's ugly!

http://rotocasted.com/toy/15816 is also listed as greasbat Prototype? (not that i mind, they are quite clearly different!) i dig this bright blank

15816 was a one-off painted prototype. This red one was the original factory prototype; Jeff and Walter have the only two. I would be interested to know what color 15816 was before it was painted. Which officially makes me a Greasebat nerd.
-
:) cool, thats what i was curious about, and yup, that does make you a nerd ;) now someone answer shanks question!!
-
Generally 2 test pulls/prototypes are made.... so I would say the painted one is either a white or another red from the test pulls?
Interesting stuff! -
@Shankweather
Hey! Original prototype or master was made with supersculpey firm and soft ( the pink and the grey one) so the color was a mix of that... saying that i dont recommend sculpey to make the master sculpt for production toys... ( i did same mistake again with Gary Ham next toy)
here some pics on the original color before the scales

@MisterQuiche
yeah indeed is nice to see this kind of threads
:) -
Chauskoskis is correct, this is the first test pull/ vinyl prototype. It's sort of a washed out red color in real life. Only two made.
