This arrived today and it really is way nicer in the vinyl flesh than the photos show. I'm a little bit smitten.

There are some on eBay, but I saw it also on an online store a few days ago. I'll try to remember which.

Huge 16" Sun Bum figure that was never up for sale is available through official Bigshot Toyworks auction for a first time.
All funds will be forwarded to Andy Heng aka Toysrevil. -
-
Got it! It's amazing in person! Became instantaneously one of my favorite toys!
-
wow man !! thats cool...how did you get it ?
-
Through the eBay auction mentioned above in benefit of Andy.
-
I finally seen one of these things in person at a surf shop..... humongous !!
-
Yes, it is! Around 16" by 16".
-
now you have to get the little keychain to go around it.
-
Which keychain wands?
-
that was a mistake... what I meant to say was... the little sun bum keychains would look cool with the big one http://www.ba-reps.com/blog/w...
-
Thanks for the tip. It's a good option if you want the figure. The 16" ones were never for sale.
-
the sad thing about it is when the stores that have them don't need them anymore they will probably end up in someone's trash bin... because the one I seen at this surf shop was really abused.
-
That's sad! Ask them to donate it to you and maybe you can have someone make a great custom.

Is this GID?
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Kaiju-GrownUps-KFGU-Pink-GID-Mothman-Flatwoods-set-/370461305684?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item564136eb54
Hmmm......... -
Yes, it is GID. It's painted with GID paint inside the figure, and because the vinyl is semi-transparent, it glows in the dark.
-
Cool! Thanks for info. I'm thinking about buying it. I'm just mad about GID figures.
-
But some are "GIDder" than others. I recently bought a GID Big Pollard and, oh my, does it glow! Beautiful!
-
The "GIDder"- the better! :)

I'll take photos of this when it comes in. Stoked that these old MINDstyle colorways were a warehouse find. SKWAK is one of the most underrated artists in this scene. His art feels like the inside of my head.

This is a sweet piece, and you can find them pretty cheaply on eBay due to some distributor clearance. They were originally priced at upwards of $100, and they're going at around $30 now. LOVE SKWAK! Even without all the color, he's great :)
-
-
actually, as far as I know, Mindstyle bad name is due to their shadiness in the relation with the artists (not paying them, not sending their APs), not about quality. I own toys from 2 series by Mindstyle (Mechtorians & serv-o-matics) and the quality is great.

Yeah same as amavevera, I've been told TONS of awful stuff about MINDstyle's ethics and operations, but if it's possible to put all that aside, the toys themselves are done really well. If you compare SKWAK's Maniac to SKWAK's KR Dunny, you can see what I mean. I only wish 1) MINDstyle didn't treat its artists so badly and 2) There was a green colorway of this piece :)
-
-
How do they treat them bad? Not pay them for their work? Do they say "we are making a toy of your artwork, that is your payment"?
Interested in this I am. -

Me too. I'm trying to find time to write an article about it, but in the meantime, ask any artist who has worked with MINDstyle. I've found most to be quite open to talking about it. For instance, Sket One and SKWAK.
-
-
It would make an interesting article! I wonder what they will say? It may be hard for the toy producers to write up a contract for correct payment? Especially considering they are bearing all the risk!
But my approach is from a product design background. Many designers work on products that don't sell but then you get one that sells like mad. Its great for portfolio (if the company lets you use it) but you were only paid an hourly rate (and/or lump sum) and the company is making millions off of a product you designed as they did all the extra legwork.
Yet as a toy, you are directly selling it for art,you would think the payment would be something like this: (A lump sum upfront) + (% royalties) + (Correct exposure, such as artists name on box)
Who knows, looking forward to your article when you do it (check out some product designer horror stories too :P) -
14 years ago
OMG Mindstyle is my favorite toy maker. I love their toy quality and the boxes that toys come in are amazing and high quality. I haven't heard of this shadi-ness though I can tell you, that I emailed Skwak a year ago to ask if he had any of the Maniac colorways and he emailed me back to say no, but if I ever found them, he'd like one. So apparently he didn't get his artists proofs.
I just bought the black/black and the black/blue off ebay for 29.95 SCORE. I have ALL Skwaks stuffz. :) -

I need the red one!
-

More info re: my post above. I talked to Skwak via email. He told me he never authorized the release of any of the Maniac Colorways (not blue, not black, not red). And he never got any proofs or any of the productions. Tsk. Tsk. Mindstyle. Tsk. Tsk.

doc18: it's the golden ticket from the 2010 series.
-
One just sold for £98 on ebay. Which means this one will most likely stay in my wishlist forever. :)
-
The price will drop over time. I'm holding out for the mustard to hit a decent price.
-
Wouldn't the "golden ticket" just be like a pre-order for when they get released. So the release year is '11?
-
Fixed.
-

Isn't March 2011 supposed to be when we get our emails for this bad boy?

not to nit pick, but shouldnt the color read "Mayonnaise" and not yellow...? ;)
-
No as even mayo has a colour to it.
-
i do see the yellow in it, but if someone described this to me and said its yellow and i had never seen it before i would actually imagine this in my head as big bird or school bus yellow, but with a mayo label on his head.. now, if you say its mayo colored, then there is no confusion there, mayo is (usually) the same color.
i guess its just the engineer in me comming out.. were all about the details!! =p -
12 years ago
... now i feel like the color police...
hahahahahaaaaa -
This is yellow, period. Mayo is not a color, just like ketchup or relish aren't.

Yeah, it definitely looks like it was designed back then.
I would love to add this dunny to my Baseman collection, but unfortunately is a chase in this series (1/196). -
