I'm feeling a lot of kaws stuff. But his pricing criteria scares me away.. :/

That's exactly how I feel. The last resting place was $600. This one is $300, which compared to $600 seems like a bargain, but I still can't afford it.

The last Resting Place was priced at $320 if I'm not mistaken, but there were some shops which bought the toy and flipped it for said price.

Oh. That makes sense. I only ever saw it listed for $600, but $320 makes a lot more sense

you guys can feel however you'd like about it, everyone is entitled to their own opinion.. i personally hate all the 'hypebeast' shit, and i would classify kaws stuff as just that.. its also ungodly expensive, i dont care if its 'art', food, a car, or toilet paper. im smarter than that to buy (severely) over priced things, there is a limit for me (for a reason): all of my other hobbies are more expensive than collecting toys, believe it or not.. ;)

The original price is very reasonable, for the size, quality and limited number of the piece. Just because something is popular, and the after market price goes up, doesn't make it expensive. Just makes it even more awesome. Don't hate the players hate the game.

but Jazzy, the "players" decide how many to make, and they usually opt to make the pieces extreremly limited eveb though they know demand is much much higher *exactly* in order to keep market and after-market prices high.
It's the reason I dislike the "fine art market" and love the toy world - afforadble art for everyone!

This is all a silly argument.
In any collecting there is cheap, affordable and expensive. No one said at the beginning of time that the toy world would only be cheap or affordable - it's a market like any other and it all depends what we are willing to pay.

I love KAWS, mostly because the toys (some of them) are awesome. The '99 Companion is the Best Art Toy Ever Made, and I will have one by golly. But I'll admit, part of the appeal for me is all the pomp and circumstance. The drops at noon on Friday, the controversies, the freakin balloon in the Macy's parade. If I'm going to be part of the toy world, I gotta have my feet in the KAWS pool.

It's an interesting point though, if Original Fake produced say half a million of these, so they would be cheap enough (say £20) and accessible for everyone to own, and have one in their house. Would they still be as cool/desirable?

Are we saying that the only way to make something fine art, is to limit the production quantity?

I don't think it would be near as cool if it was easy to get. The thrill in collecting something so limited is part of what makes you collecting so fun (for me at least). That said, if they wanted to make enough of these so that they could drop the price to about $150, I would be much happier.

@ jazzy.. i dont care how many of a certain toy is made, i collect what i like (granted its not a stupid ass price, like all kaws pieces).. some people just cant seem to grasp this and are edition size whores (hense why i like bootlegs).. i do it for myself, and myself only.. and you should too ;)

with that said, ya'll can have these kaws pieces.. im not going to let that fool bend me over like that and take all my money, ill leave that up to everyone else who collects his stuff. im over this materialistic/elitist hypebeast shit and have been since day one..
