Very cute. Is this a kaiju from a series though, because I noticed Monstock does a version of it as well?

It is featured on the Monstock blog, but I'm not sure if Monstock actually produced it. They only retailed it, huh?
Damned Google translator! -

I'm pretty sure this is an original character.
Maybe Monstock did an exclusive colorway? -

Never noticed this from the lucky bag, what are the guts like?
-

Didn't know this existed neither, until I got it in a lucky bag yesterday. It doesn't have any guts as you can see, only a slightly yellowish color, looks even better in person.

There have been clear unpainted Mummy Boys around for a while. I know they were available at a few different SDCCs for Brian to doodle on. At one point there were a few on display at the store, but I was never able to get my hands on one.

i believe the picture has both of em. buttt its already kinda hard to tell the difference between the two, espcially if youve never seen the skinny chicken!

I believe this is the same as this:
http://rotocasted.com/toy/18630/
but with weird lighting in the pic. I am fairly certain, having collected what I beleive to be most all of them and having reserached them a bit online. i oould be wrong, but I suspect this is the deep pink under bizarre lighting conditions.
Does anyone who is an expert on these know for sure? I am partly going by the Club Tokyo database, which has always seemed pretty comprehensive to me. -

Yeah looks like the one that came with Ultraman in a set, but yellowed by lighting

This doesn't exist. I made it in Photoshop in an effort to convince Brian to make it for reals!
-

YES it should exist. C'mon Brian see the light.

Should there be a differentiation between vinyl and japanese vinyl?
-
No, I don't think so.
-
i thought it was called 'sofubi'?
-

There definitely is quality wise :P

I think the differentiation between vinyl and Japanese vinyl is just fine. It's easier for people who want to search for a specific type of figure and in my opinion it can be considered a different material: it's not just usually lighter, glossier and has more details, but the manufacturing process and even the ingredients vary slightly (Jap vinyl is unhealthier, yay).
The only thing one could merge would be Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi, which is basically the same (but would be kind of a lot of work and I don't know if it would make sense to do so). -

I'm happy with the above classification if everyone agrees. Could take a lot of tag updating though :)

Yes, I agree with LB. There certainly is a difference. Take one of your Dunnys in one hand and one of your Pocket Mummy Boys in the other. No comparison. Japan stuff has the feeling. Dunnys seem "dead".
Why else would an esteemed company like S7 choose to have their toys entirely produced in Japan?
Obviously there is a difference. But LB is right, Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi is more or less the same.
Actually you'll find Japanese and Sofubi under "Type" tag as well.
I suggest we keep one entry for Type: Sofubi.
And one entry for material: Soft Vinyl.
That way we have both
Just one thing; we mods have to keep our eyes peeled when new uploads are coming in. But it isn't that a big thing.
(OK, I see Dan was faster, than I was :) ) -

I don't think sofubi is a type. Sofubi just means "soft vinyl." I think a Mummy Boy is just a designer toy. I think the material should be sofubi and the type should be whatever is appropriate, usually designer toy or kaiju.

I think Shank actually nailed it pretty precise here...
Certainly there's a difference between designer toys and kaijus.
Everybody happy? -

If you google the name of the toy and a bunch of stills from old Japanese movies show up, it's a kaiju.

Err.. but aren't they called "sofvi" now...? Maybe we should reconsider the whole thing?? ;O/
-
-

I think the type should be removed all together or just a ‘family’ term: vinyl/plush/resin/3D printed
As so many designers/stores/collectors are referring to Japanese made vinyl as Sofubi now, I think the material for all should be changed to sofubi.... then again, it might all be called 'Super Flexible Magical Plastic' next year so you'll have to change it all over again.
Sofvi/sofubi/japanese vinyl = all the same thing. You can get soft vinyl out of China though.

Okay, so what's the story with this figure? Was it a one off for that year's LB and never made again?
-
It was never made again because most of them don't stand upright well or at all. Some also came with some light blue sprays
