I guess the way I see it, if you can have it on a shelf (with the top on) and it has the artistic value, quality and overall appearance of a designer toy, I don't see the difference. Unlike the clock, the function of these does not interfere with or take over the aesthetics/design.
So if someone made a designer toy eraser, but you couldn't tell it was an eraser by appearance, and it had the integrity of a designer toy, I'm fine with that.
I mean, people consider Jeremy Fish's Barry the Beaver a designer toy, but we all know it has other secret functions...
If you don't allow clocks, even when their main purpose is not being a clock but display, you shouldn't allow this. Would most people really buy this mainly for its toy qualities and if that's the case, why put a USB-drive inside of it?
IMO, i think if you can upload keychains on here you should be able to have clocks and these guys on here as well. to me a keychain is even more useless and this and a clock... i mean atleast you can do something with this thumb drive and your clock!
on another note, i like the colors in this one, wonder how much memory this has, i saw a sket one that only had 512mb on it and chuckled to myself.
The new ones at Rotofugi are 8 gb. This one is by far my favorite.

If designer electronics like flash drives and toy speakers which are designed by many of the same artists who create vinyl, resin figures etc are created in limited runs I don't have a problem with it. I think we have to draw a line yes but if so they are well within those bounds and we shouldn't get all uppity over it, that's my view anyway...

Personally we have two mimobots in our household and I think they're the cutest, coolest little things. And functional, useful too...

I REALLY don't think these can be considered toys. Sorry.
Any thoughts?

I think we kind of exhausted the topic when we talked about the clocks

hm. I think they are pretty toy-like. Do you consider the Super 7 Datarock figure a toy?

I agree with the penguin. I mean, where do we draw the line? Designer erasers?
