Yeah this is incredible. I had the same reaction: is this actually resin or did the gallery accidentally send me a wood version? I purchased this resin one-off from Scott's recent gallery show in Portland. I confirmed with both Scott and the gallery that it's resin. There are subtle differences in size and weight and coloring. I love it in resin!
Just checked and the blue and brown colorways (one-off, hand-painted, HEAVY, 6-inch RESINS) are still available. $60 is a steal for this piece. The gallery people were really nice, too.
No wood box for the resin version, but it did come well-packed in a cardboard box with stickers on the sides. Sometimes I'm glad when I get a toy with packaging I can recycle. I've now got boxes of toy boxes stacking up. I want to keep the packaging on a lot of toys, but at a certain point, it gets impractical!

Silicon is very good as capturing the texture of a material and resin is very good at reproducing it :)

Jeff Pidgeon blogged about this once -
the Resins were the ones Scott made first, and the masters were molded from actual wood sculpts :)
