just ordered the original formal from foe:) just gotta knock out this one now!!
so since it says 'issue: 2' does that mean it will only be sold as a twin pack? or will you have to buy both separately? -
12 years ago
got my original one, love it. although it did make me want one of these guys real bad. CMON CHIMA
-
neither can i! but i will have to get both, as i cant decide which one i like better either.. i almost bought two regular formals, i actually kinda regret not doing it. and yes you are correct, very high quality stuff, i rec'd a (broken) foster the same day, and once i saw the broken foster i looked over my formal like a hawk, couldnt find one imperfection!
i dont usually get excited about toy releases, as i find a lot of toys un-appealing to me, but i am excited for this guy to drop! i need to start watching rotofugi more. -

Just thought I'd let you know both of these guys are now available for sale at the Chima Group store, along with a few other new toys and leftovers from Design Festa! Added the link.

Hahahaa. No worries, chima accidentally sent them to my house. So im going to give them to my aunt on Thursday when I see her.. it’s all good though, I just opened the box to make sure they sent me both of them and not two of one, I know theyre good at chima but I just wanted to make sure. Love these guys and the platform!

This one and a ton of others are available at One Up Japan, prices ranging from $45 to $60. Only problem might be the expensive shipping to the US ;)
-

Nice, thank you for the info - I really appreciate it! May be worth the shipping for me to grab a few more of these :)

I've added a link for you, available at One Up from Japan, so I don't know what shipping would be like, and you have to write them an email for international orders.

I remember back in 2010 when black greasebat was presented there, the one who doubt. Now still crying by night... Just sayin.. LOL I heard there will be a unpainted version...

By the way I think the description should be changed I know it's pretty much the same but in the strict sense it is not an art toy, it is a Sofubi or kaiju toy ;)

Would have loved to buy this Zagoran, but $40 for international shipping kind of ruins it.

Should there be a differentiation between vinyl and japanese vinyl?
-
No, I don't think so.
-
i thought it was called 'sofubi'?
-
There definitely is quality wise :P
-

I think the differentiation between vinyl and Japanese vinyl is just fine. It's easier for people who want to search for a specific type of figure and in my opinion it can be considered a different material: it's not just usually lighter, glossier and has more details, but the manufacturing process and even the ingredients vary slightly (Jap vinyl is unhealthier, yay).
The only thing one could merge would be Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi, which is basically the same (but would be kind of a lot of work and I don't know if it would make sense to do so). -

I'm happy with the above classification if everyone agrees. Could take a lot of tag updating though :)

Yes, I agree with LB. There certainly is a difference. Take one of your Dunnys in one hand and one of your Pocket Mummy Boys in the other. No comparison. Japan stuff has the feeling. Dunnys seem "dead".
Why else would an esteemed company like S7 choose to have their toys entirely produced in Japan?
Obviously there is a difference. But LB is right, Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi is more or less the same.
Actually you'll find Japanese and Sofubi under "Type" tag as well.
I suggest we keep one entry for Type: Sofubi.
And one entry for material: Soft Vinyl.
That way we have both
Just one thing; we mods have to keep our eyes peeled when new uploads are coming in. But it isn't that a big thing.
(OK, I see Dan was faster, than I was :) ) -

I don't think sofubi is a type. Sofubi just means "soft vinyl." I think a Mummy Boy is just a designer toy. I think the material should be sofubi and the type should be whatever is appropriate, usually designer toy or kaiju.

I think Shank actually nailed it pretty precise here...
Certainly there's a difference between designer toys and kaijus.
Everybody happy? -

If you google the name of the toy and a bunch of stills from old Japanese movies show up, it's a kaiju.

Err.. but aren't they called "sofvi" now...? Maybe we should reconsider the whole thing?? ;O/
-
-
I think the type should be removed all together or just a ‘family’ term: vinyl/plush/resin/3D printed
As so many designers/stores/collectors are referring to Japanese made vinyl as Sofubi now, I think the material for all should be changed to sofubi.... then again, it might all be called 'Super Flexible Magical Plastic' next year so you'll have to change it all over again.
Sofvi/sofubi/japanese vinyl = all the same thing. You can get soft vinyl out of China though.

Anyone else tired of mash-up toys? This thing, along with the silly stuff from Grody Shogun. I want a toy that was designed carefully by an artist, not two toys that were designed carefully and then glued together.

I actually enjoy all kinds of mash-ups, if they for example result in an intended trashy look and add some kind of bootleg/whatever feel to something. However I think this one just looks too artificial and random to me, it doesn't really work.
