Should there be a differentiation between vinyl and japanese vinyl?
-
No, I don't think so.
-
i thought it was called 'sofubi'?
-
There definitely is quality wise :P

I think the differentiation between vinyl and Japanese vinyl is just fine. It's easier for people who want to search for a specific type of figure and in my opinion it can be considered a different material: it's not just usually lighter, glossier and has more details, but the manufacturing process and even the ingredients vary slightly (Jap vinyl is unhealthier, yay).
The only thing one could merge would be Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi, which is basically the same (but would be kind of a lot of work and I don't know if it would make sense to do so). -

I'm happy with the above classification if everyone agrees. Could take a lot of tag updating though :)

Yes, I agree with LB. There certainly is a difference. Take one of your Dunnys in one hand and one of your Pocket Mummy Boys in the other. No comparison. Japan stuff has the feeling. Dunnys seem "dead".
Why else would an esteemed company like S7 choose to have their toys entirely produced in Japan?
Obviously there is a difference. But LB is right, Japanese vinyl, soft vinyl and sofubi is more or less the same.
Actually you'll find Japanese and Sofubi under "Type" tag as well.
I suggest we keep one entry for Type: Sofubi.
And one entry for material: Soft Vinyl.
That way we have both
Just one thing; we mods have to keep our eyes peeled when new uploads are coming in. But it isn't that a big thing.
(OK, I see Dan was faster, than I was :) ) -

I don't think sofubi is a type. Sofubi just means "soft vinyl." I think a Mummy Boy is just a designer toy. I think the material should be sofubi and the type should be whatever is appropriate, usually designer toy or kaiju.

I think Shank actually nailed it pretty precise here...
Certainly there's a difference between designer toys and kaijus.
Everybody happy? -

If you google the name of the toy and a bunch of stills from old Japanese movies show up, it's a kaiju.

Err.. but aren't they called "sofvi" now...? Maybe we should reconsider the whole thing?? ;O/
-
I think the type should be removed all together or just a ‘family’ term: vinyl/plush/resin/3D printed
As so many designers/stores/collectors are referring to Japanese made vinyl as Sofubi now, I think the material for all should be changed to sofubi.... then again, it might all be called 'Super Flexible Magical Plastic' next year so you'll have to change it all over again.
Sofvi/sofubi/japanese vinyl = all the same thing. You can get soft vinyl out of China though.

How do the legs support the body? To me they seem a little delicate... other than that very nice, I did not realize the heart floats!
-
The legs are attached to the base disc as part of the design.

I'm sure santa would be more willing if he could deal with the expensive shipping costs.

Got this for my little brother from a sale at the Kidrobot EU site for about 12 euros a while back - was pretty damn stoked about it!
And now he's been infected with the vinyl virus ;) -
13 years ago
Oh what have you done! Ha, he'll be as bad as all of us VERY soon ;)
-
Haha, we'll see ;)
I got him a few Qees recently from the China Series 1. So the collection is slowly building up! -

The time is near where I am actually contemplating selling off my KR mascot collection (this being one of the many I own). I will be gathering some pictures and details soon to list on ebay, but if anyone is interested in the meantime. Please feel free to email me directly @ "jgodinez302@gmail.com". I prefer to get rid of them all together in bulk to a good home, but I understand most people don't have that kind of cash to drop. So contact me for further details or requests.

I get booged down in collection by all sorts of things - the money I spend, hunting that toy you just can';t get or getting ready for the next release...
But sometimes I just pass by the cabinet, I pick something up and look at it and think - I have some really beautiful things :) -

Blue - as GID is in the title I reckon.
-
See, thing is, I sometimes like to look at my toys in order of colour... so a GID toy wouldn't be in the right section.
-
Your flat must be brighter than normal lighting with all your GID's! It must look spectacular.
So... have you decided the colour tag issue? -

It sounds amazing! You should post photos of the boudoir so we can experience the world Jan-stylee.

Okie dokee :)
While waiting for the green version of this creature to arrive... do the arms move on them or are they moulded like the Power Misters?
