Of course, cost from Chima + usurious shipping from Japan = cost from Rotofugi + US shipping. Whew!

It's a fantastic piece, but I'm a bit surprised that the seam between the top and bottom pieces is so irregular. Is this characteristic of sofubi? Is sofubi the right term for this guy?

I don't really like the sofubi term, it's like calling all the toys just vinyl toys. There's so many different styles made with japanese soft vinyl.

    Sofubi is just 'wasei-ego' http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... />
Soft Vinyl -> Softu Binyl -> Sofubi

I like the word 'sofubi'! To me, it encompasses the soft vinyl production methods of Japan. Even though the design needs to adhere to Japanese slush moulding techniques, 'sofubi' is not a genre of style.

I guess the word is being re-used just like ‘Kaiju’?

    Sofutu Biniru it is ;)

I like the word, but I don't like the fact that manufacturing process became a posmark of the style (yes, same as kaiju).

    Sofubi Kaiju

It's interesting how the Japanese tend not to classify everything into genres. I guess thats how they can make really cool pieces.

Well, the poor guy has never been out of the plastic since I bought him, so its a little hard to tell!
He is quite roughly finished compared with the professional designer toys, but he has a naive charm because of that,he is very cute.
I'm glad you enjoyed his story Sergey, many thanks for this fantastic site! :)
