dumb question, if you buy these are you supposed to open them?
-
Never!! Its Art! The card is better than the figure!
Seriously though, they come off pretty easy, so I guess its personal preference. There just on with a little bit of cello-tape. -
12 years ago
I wish that carded Art figures like this had a slide in/out front, so that you could take them out without damaging the card. Sucklord should get on that shit.

thanks for that info dan! i was thinking about picking up the 10 d con buff mini flavors but wasnt sure if things packaged like this should be opened or not (and also dont have any money).. although i still would have opened it up either way, i think this would look super weird with a bunch of other opened up figs..
but IMO, i think the box or packaging is about as worthless as the paper/carboard its made from, all i really care about is the figure/toy. (i think its funny when people get all worked up over a box/packing) -
12 years ago
moody doom,
great idea, seen it on a few thinks packaged like this before, makes you wonder why you dont see it a lot? maybe they just dont want you openeing it at all.
did you open yours? -

Do not try and remove the art. That's impossible. Instead, only try to realize the truth: there is no art.
-
-

to art or not to art that is the question
-
@bbxx2334 - no way in hell i'm opening this one. : )
For me, ice cream toys can only be served with a good dose of titties and heavy metal.
losing the packaging would subtract all the wonderful buffness from this piece.
There's no right or wrong though man. Whatever impulse is strongest (to open to not open) just go with it and enjoy. -
12 years ago
i like the pictures and text on the background cardboard more than i like these figures themselfs... so i wont be buying any.. they just look really weird and kinda unoriginal to me, i just wanted to see if people open them or not... i think thats the other reason why i am super turned off by this kinda stuff, you open it to enjoy it for what it is, then it pretty much becomes worthless (in terms of $$$) just because you opened it. thanks for the explanation though!

I have always loved Mr. Bunny, but I am a big fan of JLED's work. Can't wait for the Snow Bunny release!
-

I had to read about it in every d con thread multiple times on the KR boards, people were sweating this fig, hard.
While I like the composition and colors, I guess this is just another fig I don't understand the hype behind. Also, 600 & 700 on eBay and 1500 for a signed one.. that also is what really turns me away from figs. -

I've never dug Ledbetter either, but he's got a huge loyal fanbase, and everyone says he's a nice guy. So I'm going to assume it's my fault for not getting it.

im starting to think im too picky ;)
although i do applaud him for the color execution on this, that is the one thing that i think really makes this one stick out.

I dunno, a Dunny was one of my first toys and I hold an effection for them.
i think Tristan Eaton did a brilliant job on the design and it's one of the best Platforms out there -
-

If KR are allowing Ryniak to edit the form to require new tooling, I would have liked something a bit better. Still, I would love to have this little guy.

I don't hate Dunnys as they keep the whole scene going. But artistically,I would always prefer to see a new form.Economically though, that's not always possible. :)

I also prefer original sculpts, but I think for sure there's a place for platform figures in our world.
It may have gotten out of hand at some point but these figures have a viable asthetic. If the shape is good and maliable enough (which I think the Dunny is) it provides an interesting canvas for artists.
For me the interesting aspect is having a bunch lined up together to compare the ways artists used the shaped and how they worked with it and transformed it. -

lordsketch hit the nail on the freakin head... to me it has almost nothing to do with the toy and everything to do with how the individual artists handle it. A couple of years ago Tenacious Toys put on an art show where artists used empty deodorant bottles to make pieces... the results were amazing, and it was really interesting how each artist approached the base in a totally different way.

Mike Egan's artwork is cool as hell. And his 'Bones' releases are no exception.., This colorway looks AMAZING! However, I'm not sure how Kozik got the Main Billing on this...

That's what I'm saying. It's just green. Not sure what value Kozik has added here, other than his name.

I thought Kozik casted it himself in his studio himself.
So this would be a Mike Egan by Kozik (??) -

So, this is Mr. Potato Head without the thing that makes Mr. Potato Head great? It's like buying Legos that are already assembled and glued together.

I gave away some of these blind boxes as party favors at my 5-year-old daughter's birthday party. Not until after they opened them did I see these little guys have a bit more detail than I realized.

We all got a good laugh out of it. Even the grandmas and great-grandmas. All the girls have cool parents so it was no biggie. Literally, it was no biggie, look at that thing.

Theres an "ART" type tag now, what justifies one item being any more "ART" than another?
antifaucetwater

Good question. Besides the occasional clock/bobble head/ what have you, I consider most of the pieces on Rotocasted to be "art" one way or another.
jazzydan
499 646 2538
Exactly, art is in the eye of the beholder. To me, this isn't art, but if someone else thinks it is, then thats awesome.
The tags need to be narrowed down, and made into a selection you can choose from, as opposed to typing what you damn like.

what other 'types' are there? i thought just about anything on here was considered an 'art' toy... hell, that's the only justification i have when i buy my toys..

There is a statue type, which seems just fine for this guy.

What makes this anymore a statue than a 16" KAWS toy?
Shankweather
432 4 822
I think a base gives it a statue vibe, and this one has a base even if it's incorporated into the design. A 5YL Kaws still has the look of a toy that could be played with, and I don't think this does. But I'm sure we could find examples of items that challenge that definition.

no need for a fuss.
This is a custom. We have a label for customs which we always use.

i agree with shankweather, but jazzy does have a good point as well. glad to see it got the right label sorted out though.

I believe Dan is saying this can't be a custom because there is no platform. The custom/one-off debate has been ongoing.

Can't be a custom unless it started as something else. Other wise its just a designer toy and the quantity is 1
